Who We Are

Established in March 2011, Shepreth Wildlife Conservation Charity help fundraise for important conservation work both home and abroad.

Our Mission

The organisation raises funds and educates visitors about species which are threatened with extinction, and also plays a major role in providing funds for the on-site Hedgehog Hospital.

The work of the charity is only made possible through the generous support of donors, fundraisers and volunteers who support the project. And we’re proud to have Hugh Warwick as our patron.

Our Aims

  • To improve animal welfare and the conservation of British fauna and flora.

  • To improve animal welfare and conservation of fauna and flora of endangered species around the world.

  • To educate the general public about British fauna and flora, endangered species around the world and the local environment.

  • To provide grants to individuals and organisations to allow them to further the aims shown above.

“The efficient caring nature of the hedgehog hospital is combined with a robust scientific attitude - which makes Shepreth stand out as a beacon for how things should be done. It is an honour to be a patron of the charity.”

— Hugh Warwick, Hedgehog Hospital Patron

SWCC Patron Hugh Warwick holding a hedgehog

Hugh Warwick is an ecologist and writer with a particular fondness for hedgehogs. His first book, A Prickly Affair, remains the only book to have accolades from both Jeanette Winterson and Ann Widdecombe on the cover. The Beauty in the Beast was published in May 2012 and takes him on a journey in search of other animals.

Hugh became SWCC’s first patron in summer 2013, opening the project’s first ever Hedgehog Day.
